I've been flip-flopping on this topic. I like history, but since A.P. World was so hard I'm reluctant to take this.

  1. AP World is broad and general in its range and scope of material, which AP US is rather detailed and quite focused because the time period is much much shorter. If you found AP World and the essay writing a challenge, AP US might not be a great idea. The skills you learned in World should be used to apply to learning new concepts and material in US in order to be successful. If you have not mastered these skills, such as essay-writing with details, theses, etc. and answering MC questions accurately, I wouldn't take AP US.

  2. Depends on the teachers at your school.

I didn't take world, but I took US and had a really good teacher.

    I got a B+ for the class and a 5 on the test. :)

    I'd recommend it though. ;)

  3. No, take something that's fun, like math, music, you know.  Lol.

  4. Do it! I had a great time in that class. I didn't take World, but I imagine it would be more difficult than U.S. since there is more information to cover.

I scored a 5 so I was able to opt out of my Historical Survey classes in college. Ended up majoring in history as well.

  5. I was in your shoes a year ago, pretty much exactly. History is my favorite subject, but I didn't really enjoy AP world as much as I though I would have and it was really hard. But now that you've taken AP World you are better prepared for harder classes in general so U.S. won't be as bad. I thought the subject was a little bit easier too. World is just so overwhelming because you're studying the whole world over a period of like 10,000 years. For U.S. you're mainly learning about stuff that happened in a 250 year time period (if not less) and mainly just the US. You'll be fine if you like history. I feel like I learned so much world in U.S. than I did in world.  I highly recommend taking APUSH, I loved my class this year.

  6. If you don't want to have any sort of social studies or history requirements in college then I would suggest it. Since if you don't want to take history in college you'll have to pass the AP test and technically you cna take the test without taking the class, but it's much easier if you take the class. You should definitely talk to your guidance counselor and your AP World History teacher, and see if they think you can handle or if they even think you need to take it.
