Question:

Should I take Chemistry I and Physics I with a poor math backround?

I am trying to meet the core requirements to get into a Physical Therapy program. I have already received my bachelors in psychology but stayed away from science and math course throughout my college career because of lack of efficacy in these courses. I took college Algebra in college and was passed because of my effort. I don't want to sabotage myself by taking these courses and then having to drop but I really want to get my PT degree. Should I stay out this semester and get my math skills where they need to be or just go for it?

Thank you for your time.

Matthew.

  1. Actually, the chemistry for PT is almost all math and logic.  Physics usually requires a good background in trig or calculus.  College algebra may be OK for chem...you will use it alot...lots of problem solving. Definetely get a good handle on trig before starting physics.

When I entered college, it had been about three years since I had any chem...even though I placed into general chem, I chose to go back and take a basic chem course first.  It was a good review and I aced both basic and the  general chem courses. It was worth the extra semester.

...remember that both physics and chem are prereqs for PT...you NEED to do well in these courses. Even if you retake them, your previous grades will still be factored in. You want to get it right the first time!

  2. chemistry you should be able to cope with even if maths isnt your strongest subject. but physics is basically just maths, more the problem solving side of things though!

    goodluuuuck! :)
