So yeah...I'm going to start my sophomore year and although I'm enrolled for Spanish 1 I'm having seconds thoughts...I hear Spanish is easier but French looks like fun and I love the accents lol. My parents really want me take Spanish because it's quite useful in Cali and I think most people are taking it including some of my friends but the people who already started Spanish last year are in Spanish 2. Since I go to a new high school, they didn't offer French last year but they are this year so another good lot of my friends are starting that. So I'm asking, which gives you an overall better learning experience and why? Thanks!

  1. I think it's best to take into consideration which would be more useful for you to utilize in your near future.

    1. Have you considered being an international representative, or working around in Europe, or countries influenced by Europe. French is very useful. It's international standing would be invaluable.

    2. Spanish, simple, numbers. There are more people that speak Spanish than French. Mexico, Latin America, South America (except Brazil), and of course Spain use Spanish. There are also a few others that speak it (i.e. some African countries, Cuba, etc.) Along with their apparent prevalence in some parts of the U.S. Excellent for business and marketing.

    3. If I were you, I would try to experience both. You might just end up preferring one of those languages because of your own likings :)

Try checking out some websites for some basic words and see how you like them.

  2. Both are very interesting, and important languages. But in this case, will be better if you start with spanish, and after you can learn french too.

  3. Are those your only choices?

WE have spanish, french, german, russian (proposed), chinese mandririn, latin and sign language. SPanish is good to knowwith the influx of hispanic minority population... but everything else is more interesting and different. I take german becasue they have good chocolate.

  4. Definitely Spanish, especially in California. It is so much more useful than French.

  5. I speak French fluently because it is my native language but i am taking Spanish.

Your parents are right living in the U.S. especially in Cali Spanish would be a better choice because you will use it more and compare to French it is way easier.

French is not really spoken in the U.S. unless you find someone who is Haitian (like me :-), French, Canadian or African - some places in Africa do speak French. But event though these places speak French they also have like their own jargon and twist on the language so French is not universal in every place you go.

For example in Africa some of their native words might get mixed into the language. In Haiti and Martinique their is Creole and in Canada they pretty much speak a slang now

In other words you really have to fall in love with the accent of the language which is where all the beauty is located because it looks easy but it is kind of hard for someone to learn it but you are young so if you stick Whit it and is persistent you will instantly fall in love with the language like so many of us did

    so you have two choices

Either one are good so don't stress yourself choice was you want and don't let your parents make you decisions for you. They hinted you to take Spanish but they are not forcing you

    Bonne Chance

    Buenas Suerte

    Good Luck
