Question:

Should I take Tap or Ballet?

I know ballet is the basis for most dances, but tap looks so much fun. The only thing is ballet takes up so much time (4X's a week) and if I did tap then I would have time to try different types of dances. I kind of want to learn Irish dancing too. Which way should I go- ballet or tap?

  1. well four times a week for ballet is really annoying. ballet is the best in small doses not all the time. If i were you i would do tap and if it offers these classes than i would suggest doing them to: jazz, lyrical, modern.

    I  hope this helped!

  2. tap will help prepare you for irish step dancing....

  3. Tap! ballet is somewhat boring and serious. Tap on the other hand has rhythm and its fun and exciting. plus it sounds cool.

  4. Probably go for tap. I do ballet currently, and it does take up a whole load of time. It also is more expensive. You have to buy all of the apparel that you will need. Thats a leotard, shoes, and tights. That adds up to almost 200$. Plus, tights rip over time, so you have to buy more pairs. Tap, usually you could go for a while on just one good pair of tap shoes.

Ballet isn't bad. It's actually pretty fun, but it requires a lot of discipline and skill. Tap  does look pretty fun, and if you get really good, you can learn many new skills.

  5. It depends on what types of dance you like. How can anyone on YA answer this for you. Does it have to be just one of the other for that matter?

BTW: If you like annoying your parents the sound of tap is way more annoying. :-)

  6. Ballet is also versatile not just tap

if u know any kind of dance u can dance something else

so take ballet it looks much nicer and not so clumsy

(no offense to the people who take tap)

  7. I'd say you should do ballet for several weeks just to gain the basic fundamentals of posture etc and then do tap. Ballet may seem a little boring in comparison but it lays down a heck of a lot of important foundations for all dance styles. In general you can always tell who has taken ballet before other dances -they often carry better lines,  hold a better posture, and show attention to small details such as hand placements and such.

  8. i prefer ballet, but there are lots of other people that prefer tap. They are completely different styles so only you can really decide what you want to do. From the way you've written your question, it sounds like you would rather do tap. Follow your heart rather then what others say they prefer.

  9. here is what i would do

1: take ballet for 1 WHOLE semester. you may find that you like it

2: take tap for 1 WHOLE semester. you may find that the noise annoys you more then the other people around you

3: decide after trying both. that way, you will have something instead of someone to help you make the descision

i prefer ballet over tap, even thought i teach both. ballet is more relaxing, and serious, but it can be fun once you get the basics down.

i get really annoyed with the sound of tap shoes, because it is like walking around in solid metal heels, except louder.

    best of luck to you!!

  10. Ballet.

Its More Ellegent Also It Is The Best Sport For Keeping Toned. That Is A Fact. As It Uses Every Muscle in Your Body.

When Tap Ushally Only Uses Your Feet.

  11. I would go the ballet way because it takes more out of you    you could become more athletic and when your done with ballet you could always do tap the ballet will get you ready!!

  12. Tap. It's more versatile.

  13. Here's an odd suggestion for you.

Take Irish Step and Ballet both.  Ballet is a more demanding form, but it will help you in the Irish Step. Irish has the soft shoe dances that borrow a lot from Ballet.  The hard shoe is not that difficult if you have natural rhythm and uses many of the soft shoe dances you learn first.

Unless you plan on being a Ballerina, there is no reason you MUST take Ballet 4 x's a week.  Look for a studio that is less demanding and take it on your time.

You might also want to check out various dance schools summer camps.  I found one for my daughter that runs for 5 weeks and teaches ballet, contemporary, jazz & hip-hop during this time frame. Of course that is not enough time to get good at any of them, but it will allow the dancer to find out which genre is more interesting to them.

    Happy Dancing!

  14. TAP!!! ballet is g*y!!!
