Question:

Should I take US History AP or regular US History; easy 10 points!?

For my junior year I will have English 3AP, Honors Chemistry, Trigonometry, Pre-calculus(H), Spanish 3(H), Biology AP, and Statistics AP. I am very talented with numbers, memorization and the like, so they won't be a concern. However, I would like to have regular US History because I view it as mindless dribble, and nothing more. I've never liked social science and I'd to major in accounting, so I'm not sure if it would be beneficial to take the AP course? Feedback please.

  1. take the AP class. it always looks good for colleges.

    :)

even if you dont do THE BEST they like to know that you tried to gain extra education and took a risk.

    it means your determined.

  2. its really a matter of what you want to pursue in the future. ap classes are always a positive for college but then again you have a full load with 3, if you can handle that with ease then maybe a 4th would be good. but if history is not a big deal to you then take the regular one so that you can spend more time on your other courses. a question though..have you taken ap classes before? if not i would advise you talking to your school counselor and your parents before taking on 3, even the  most intelligent students can struggle with these and consider that you also will want a social life at some point. but honestly the choice is yours.

  3. Are you me? Cause I'm about to be a junior but I've already made the decision to take ap history. But it sucks cause I have to read this boooooooooring book with extra big words that no one uses in everyday life whatsoever. But if you do well in it it will help you in the future down the road. Its really a matter of whats best for you.

  4. theres more hoes in regular

  5. regular..... i am i got out of ap. i heard it was reaaaaalllly hard, like teachers know of like perfect a+ students who almost fail ap. but thats just what ive heard

  6. As an AP fanatic myself...I took AP European History and found it fascinating, even though I'm not a history buff. However, next year I am taking regular US because my schedule is similar to yours and I don't want to overload with myself with an AP class I don't enjoy. I'd say go with regular. Your coursework is rigorous (read: impressive) enough as it is.

  7. Take the AP course if your GPA is weighted, i.e., you get something like a 4.5 for an A.

If not, I'd take the regular one and sleep through it.

  8. regular us history because ap is very hard!!

and it sounds like you are already taking enough ap classes anyways

  9. Even though you feel that your History class will be mindless dribble (which I agree with :-)), if you feel you can handle yet another Honors class and the workload that will go with it, I say YES, do it.

My reason is this:  Colleges / Universities will look at your courseload since your freshman year, and for a junior to be tackling the load of AP classes that you are, and the type of classes you are - in  your junior year - - -that one extra Honors (AP) class may mean a FULL RIDE - or at least less 'wonder' as to why you didn't take Honors History :-).

My daughter took as many AP classes she could handle, and she's now a junior in college - - our out of pocket expenses thus far for her education - maybe 3k total over the past 2 yrs, and she chose a private - BIG BUCKS university!

The more you take, the more you get in return :-), and if you can handle, KNOCK IT OUT OF THE PARK !

Good luck, and you should be proud of yourself :-)!

  10. If you are not going to major in History, regular US is enough. AP just teaches you more, so if you want to know more for SATs or something, its better to take AP. If you just want the AP just because of the name, go with the regular.

  11. ap its better

  12. you should take it so it looks good on your college transcripts.

  13. I hate history, but I took the Ap American History course, and failed it.  You are taking so many advanced/honors courses already, one more might be just too much.  If you don't like history or you aren't very good at it, don't take it, it could hurt your GPA.  If you are good at it, try it!  You should be able to drop it later if you find that you don't like it or aren't doing well in it.  By the way, the test from the college board is very hard, even for the better people at history.  History isn't going to be a major part in your major, but you will most likely will have to take a history course or two in college.

  14. If you wouldn't have a problem than I would do the AP course.  Knowledge is Power!  I wish I had learned more history in school.  Good Luck and Great Job, keep it up!

  15. AP classes and test are ALWAYS a positive to colleges. Go ahead and take it--they know you're challenging youself more. Bonus points are always better too!!!

  16. As long as you know you can get an A out of the AP course then take it.  It looks better on a transcript for scholarships and schools.  If you don't think you can pull an A in there or you think it may bring down one of your other classes because your work load is too high then I'd say go with the easier course.

  17. im taking ap gov,but the rest of my classes r just honors and normal.

it snds like u hav a prtty big workload already, but its rlly all about where u want to go and how much u can handle.

  18. Wow that sounds like a stressful year. And isn't AP bio for senior year? And Honors Chem is like, 10th grade. Hm, well your classes are a bit mixed up but sure go for the AP course.

  19. US history AP! Colleges prefer that you go above and beyond other then just taking the classes that you need. =)

  20. I think you should stick with regular.

I personally am much better at writing and history, so my Sr. year I took AP American Gov and AP English (aced both, but did not opt for the AP exams based on my intended major in college), honors physics, and regular Calc.

The funny part is I subsequently got into a reputable school (Illinois tech) with a large scholarship for architecture, which is not largely math and science based, but both are important in the major.

It is more about being well rounded and presenting yourself well. If you feel like it will not showcase you in your best light, stick with the subjects you can handle, and ace a slightly easier course in your weak spots.

Sounds like you have a serious course load, by the way. Don't forget to have a little fun on the side. You won't regret it.

Also, if you are going to major in accounting, you probably will not have to take english or history in college, right? The whole point of AP is to be able to take the AP exam at the end of the year and be exempt from those courses in college. Stick with the ones close to your major.

  21. it's always better to take an AP for college record. but if you want the GPA too look good then you should stick with regular

  22. i am only a freshman but some one told me to take as many AP courses as possible because it will look good on your application and some count as credits for college!
