I am getting an accounting related job in an office that pays 7.75 an hour. I am a college student majoring in Accounting and I feel that this could give me good experience. however, i also feel that it pays too little. Should I take the job?

  1. You might think of it this way. You'll be getting experience under your belt as you're finishing college and making a little money on the side so maybe taking a little less money will be off set by the experience you'll have for your resume. Idk, just a thought.

  2. The fact that this is right in line with your chosen field is really awesome. It does seem that $8. is more the "norm" for minimum pay.

Do you have experience, what other jobs have you done?? Maybe you should get a piece of paper and write pros on 1 side and cons on the other. Do you have rent to pay or do you live with your parents??? If you don't have bills to pay, the experience would probably look great on your resume.

  3. depends on how badly you need it. if you absolutely must have it, take it, d**n what they pay you, its better than nothing.

if you don't, decide whether you can pay for certain things you want or need with the money. iif it's more than enough, than take it, you are being paid to learn by doing.

  4. Hey Buddy, think of it as a co-op program, you should pay them for what you will learn on the job. Everyone with a new degreed thinks that they are the best and brightest. They look at the world and say, Here I am!! Pay me $60K if you want me! When the world shuns them and there are no takers, you will shine because you will have worked 2xs as hard for the $7.75 as you will work for $50K in 5 years, because you have experience. you will also have referances and referrals, just because you took this job.

Everything you learn at this job, their programs, methodology, accounting secrets, tips and tricks with be valuable information on your resume. Nobody owes you anything my friend, as you have not paid your dues, at least not yet, but you do have a job offer and who knows when you will get another one, while studying in school.

I deal with candidates all day and I would rather hire someone with 10 yrs of experience and a GED, than a fresh graduate who has not touched the inside of a live business ledger/program.

Min Wage will teach you more than you think. It is truely a blessing in disquise. You are fortunate to have this opportunity

  5. just take it and quit when and if you find something better, i'm 16 and getting $6.60 an hour it sucks especially when you have the lazy government taking a chunk out of your paycheck

  6. These days, you better take it while you can and then you can always take a better one when the opportunity presents itself - trust me.

  7. You should probably seek higher paying jobs.  Do whatever it takes to get them; lie on your resume.

Maybe consider taking this lower-paying job for the time being until you find a better one?

  8. See what else is out there in the same field. If there is nothing else, and you really enjoy the accounting related job, then it will be as you said a good experience.

  9. No. ask for at least 10$
