Question:

Should I take a laptop on holiday?

Is it safe? I'm going to London in September and am worried about bringing my laptop.

Where do you keep it when you're not at the hotel?

Should I just bring my PDA?

Thankyou.

  1. No and leave your mobile at home as well and all other techno gadgets, chill out, rest, lose yourself you might find you enjoy it.If anyone needs to get hold of you in an emergency just give them the number of the place you stay at.

  2. i alwyas bring my laptop.. especially if its a business trip because i like to "get away" from work  by going online and catching up on personal emails and stuff. i most always put it in my suitcase and pile some clothes on top of the laptop. never had a problem before...

  3. I take mine everywhere and just pay to use the safe in my hotel room.  Never had one stolen yet.  I can then use it for work, keep in touch with friends/colleagues by Skype and watch movies.

Keep it with you on the plane though in your hand luggage.

Hope this helps and have a good week. ;-)

  4. In all my years in business (nearly 30 since high school and 25 since college) I have learned to separate business from pleasure.

You're either on vacation or a business trip. Unless you are planning to write the British version of the "Great American Novel" leave your laptop at home.

I do carry my PDA on vacation. Why? I have a few hundred books on memory stick. Set me up on a beach chair with a beer, my PDA, and some SPF15 sun block and I'm a happy guy.

  5. A business holiday!?? How is it like?? I guess these two are totally different type of trip.

You can put your laptop inside the locker in a hotel

  6. If it was strictly holiday, I would say leave it at home.  But since you want to also do some business, take it with you and if you are worried you can leave it at the front desk when you leave the hotel and they will put it in the safe.  Of course, if there is a safe in your room you can use that, but not all hotel rooms have safes.  I have often left my laptop in hotel rooms and have never had a problem with it, but the hotels have been ones where I was well known because I travelled a lot for work.  I probably wouldn't do that in London.   So simply use the services of the front desk.  They will take care of it.

  7. I would just bring a PDA then you won't have to worry about it. I've never heard of a business 'holiday' before!! Lol.

  8. 1st off business, holiday, and vacation shouldn't be used in the same sentence. I'll assume it's business.

Check with the hotel and see if they have a room safe. Depending on the size of the laptop and safe, that may make for safe keeping. Also be sure to take the laptop in your carry-on, do not check the bag.

If you feel it's necessary to efficiently do business, I see no harm in bringing it. However, if your PDA runs Windows Mobile or is otherwise capable of getting work done, I'd stick with the PDA.
