Question:

Should I take a year off?

Ok so I'm a Canadian and I've been accepted to university in Canada but unfortunately the residence is full. I currently live in Dubai so I was thinking of taking a gap year and then moving next year when I can actually apply for residence ahead of time and be more prepared. The only problem with that is that since I'm finished school and don't have a job, I'm pretty much going to be wasting this upcoming year. Should I take a year off or should i just move anyway and rent a place and just deal with all those issues. Another thing is my parents aren't going to be supporting me next year so if I do decide to move I'm worried about all the expenses. I have really good grades though and I even received a scholarship on half my tuition for the next four years. Opinions?

  1. Why not take the year off (i mean since its full) but i recommend that you look for a job and work in somehting similar to your career goal.  Having experience never hurts and if it fits or is similar to your career, goal....you'll be ahead,.

  2. I would not take off a year with people I know who take off a year never really get back on track and you already have a scholarship.

  3. Well, there a definitely pros and cons to each side. If it is really important to you that you finish school, then I would go ahead and start. But I don't see a problem with taking some time and finding a job and saving some money. But why do you have to take a whole year? Why not just a semester? That way you can work for a few months, but you won't miss a whole year.
