Should I take an expensive $1800 test prep for SAT? ?

Hi, Right now I'm going to go into senior year and my sat scores are sadly 1550 really average. I don't plan on going to Ivys nor top schools. However I do want to make in a good reputable school in NY, where I am located. Right now, I'm contemplating whether I should take an expensive test prep called Testtakers $1800 bucks! I don't know if its worth it but i have heard alot of great results from classmates but I really don't know if it is worth it!

Should I take an $1800 course or will I regret not making that decision in my life? Deadline is really near. I just found out that it was $1800 not the $1550 that it use to be.

I do not want to try other programs because I know they suck. Kaplan and Princeton Review around my area isn't good at all. I took Kaplan and it sucked like h**l.

havent you already sent in your college apps? so changing your SAT score won't benefit you very much

Absolutely, get all the help you can, a good college could easily mean the difference between a good job and a crummy one later. Those with funds have a huge advantage in the college game these days. There's sophisticated test prep, essay editing companies, private college counselors that tell the what activities to do, you name it! These thing can help a great deal so do whatever you can pay for.

If you're the type of person who has a hard time doing work by his/herself, then i recommend doing the course. If you need help on the SAT, there are plenty of online forums to go on for help. However, a high score definitely is possible if you do it by yourself.

Rocket Review for SAT Reading/Writing (kinda hard to find in bookstores. Go on Amazon.)

Grubers for the SAT Math

Collegeboard's official Guide (DO NOT TRUST THE strategies listed in this guide. ONLY trust the tests. Trusting the company who makes the test to help you get a better score is practically trusting a tobacco company to help you quit smoking.)

Another guide i enjoyed was Grammatix. It's an Ebook that's sold on Grammatix.com.

Find SAT forums, such as collegeconfidential, so if you have trouble, you can post on the forums.

Do alot of practice from the Collegeboard Book, and when you make mistakes, learn WHY you make them.

my friends have taken testtakers and they really liked it, another one that i heard that was better than Kaplan is examcrackers i think.

No!  I knew a girl from college who took an SAT prep class, and she said that it was the biggest waste of time and money that she'd ever spent; it didn't even help her scores significantly.  What worked for me is using some test prep books, reading all of the material, and doing practice problems.  I spent around thirty dollars total on my test prep books, and I ended up with an SAT score high enough to get me into an Ivy League school.  I've seen over and over again that independent study with test prep books is even more effective than a course that costs over $1000.
