Okay, I will be a Junior in HS in the fall. My question is... my school offers Agriculture courses.. and I think I would be very interested in them. I do not live on a farm or anything.. but I love animals. Someday I would love to live on a Farm. I would love to be a teacher and idk.. maybe become an Agriculture teacher. But would it be stupid for me to take that course when I dont live on a farm?

  1. Go for it. The only way you'll know whether it's right for you is if you try it out. Besides, what's the worst that will happen - you'll learn something new?

Also, I would encourage you to look further into teaching. It can be a very rewarding career.

  2. yes go ahead

  3. Take the agriculture class.  You will learn more life lessons in agriculture courses than any other class in HS.  Farmers only make up less than one percent of the people in US agriculture.  Agriculture brings all the subjects into one.  Take the class!

  4. Of course take the class if you are interested.  It may help you decide on your future career.

  5. Not stupid at all.  But Agriculture isn't just about animals, it includes soil management, plants, animals and insects and how they work together.

If you are interested in animals but not the other, then consider Animal Husbandry or Zoology instead.

But if you want to have a farm one day, then Agriculture would be very helpful to run a profitable farm.

  6. Go for it.

I know many guys that studied with me in University that had nothing to do with farming and now are agricultural engineers and working in very good positions at some major companies.

  7. take it, there are many people in my ag class who are going to be nurses and other careers that have nothing to do with agriculture and most dont live on a farm, allow yourself to expand you learnings and learn something that you enjoy, and you never know, maybe someday you will be an ag teacher, soon the baby boomers are going to retire and there should be a lot of job openings in the field

  8. No way it wouldn't be stupid!

You definitely should take the courses.

Soon you will find that agriculture is much more than farming.

Most if the kids in my ag classes never even went to a farm lol.

You'll find that ag classes teach you proper pet care, landscaping, mechanical stuff.

Agriculture is a vast area and if you want to be a teacher, ag a or not these are great classes.

Mine really helped me with other classes like anatomy, math and science.

Plus ag teachers are different they are more friends than teachers lol.

Take the courses if you dont like them, just dont do them the next year. Just please give the courses a chance they are soo much fun!

I took ag classes because I loved animals in stuff. I dont live on a huge farm, and am now going to school to be an Ag. Teacher. lol

    Good Luck!

  9. If you have an interest, take the class.  That is what school is really for, to find and further develop your interests.  Maybe you will find you love agriculture and it will strengthen your resolve to live on a farm.  Maybe you will find you hate it and decide to change your future plans.  The only way to know is to take the class and learn more about it.

  10. If you have an interest, take the courses. You may find that's what you like and build/ buy a farm later. It would be a lot easier to know what your in for before you buy the farm as opposed to after. I got a B.S. in plant/ soil and then was selected to help establish a facility. I then went on to establish a larger facility later and was involved in some research work.

  11. Not stupid at all. As you said - this is something you want to do in the future, so it is about your future, not about your present, therefore - it doesn't matter where you live now.

If you want to have a real feel for it now- you can go once or several times a month (or once in several months - depending on your free time and how far the nearest farm from you) to a farm somewhere, and ask to help them. Explain that you are doing this course and want to know more. Most of the farmers would love to have a helper or to share their experiences. GO for it!

  12. Not at all!  I encourage you to take the courses!  Ag is so much fun!

    Good luck!
