Question:

Should I take my Daytona 675 off the road to Race!?

I dig riding on the road but am keen to get on the track. Obviousley there is a greater risk of me dropping the bike because I will be in race conditions but at least they will be in a supervised arena.

Any more pro's and cons would be appreciated.

  1. I will always answer this with YES !

Making a track day bike is always great fun.

Ive lost count how many I have converted. Also, its not that costly. All the junk ( headlights etc ) that you take off can be sold to fund the new fairing's / trailer etc.

As for racing the bike, I would not bother. You can enter the one maker Triumph cup but you will need alot of cash and backing.

As for racing it else where, you are at a negative with the bike not been a 600cc. However open class Endurance will allow almost any size. We did the Snetteton 6 hours on a Gixer 400 RR grey import against 600 / 750 and even Busa's ! We did not win ,but we finished 33rd out of 47 finish'ers and 58 started/ So not bad. Just that one race was over £2000 @ $3700, and took a team of 9.

    Great fun.

  2. there are a couple of solutions. some more expensive than others.... for me the best choice would be to spend a few grand on a track bike. that way you dont have to worry about thrashing your street ride. next would be to prep your street bike and use it on track days. most tracks have provisions like ducttaping or removing the headlamps and using water wetter as opposed to ethylene glycol based coolants. as always safety wiring bolts and fill plugs is required at most tracks.   the second options is cool to me because I like the race prep look on street legal bikes. whatever you do remember that the skills you learn on the track are nice to have on the street when you need to get yourself out of a pinch but keep the racing on the track.
