I will be starting at a community college in january of 2009. However, i was wondering should i take my general education classes first, such as math, english, foreign language, and maybe a pyschology class. Or should i just start on my major? I want to major in Psychology i haven't decided on my second major. If so what general education classes should i take?

  1. I think it's best to take a mix of gen eds and major courses. Most programs have requirements for each and if you get done with all the gen eds and start taking the Psych classes on to realize you want something different you may be in trouble as far as scheduling. You should have an academic advisor who should help you- if not find a faculty member you like in the Psych program and ask for their help.

  2. Well in most cases you have to take your basics before going into ur major

  3. Your college adviser will direct you and you need to take your Generals sometime.  Many times you need to have some of those classes done as a prerequisite for classes in your major.

  4. I would start with taking your general education classes because even though you are interested in psychology now...you might change your mind.  Not for any particular reason, you just might here about something else that sounds more interesting or something.  If you take your general ed classes first at least you haven't wasted time/money incase you do decide to change.  Hope this helps, good luck with college.
