I'm connected to wireless. We'll be at sea for 19 days on a Norweigan Lince cruise, ending on land in Belgium & France for four days. I'll be downloading digital pictures and emailing family/friends. Is it worth it??

  1. If the ship has wireless access, why not?

  2. only if you are going to work, this is supposed to be a relaxing vacation.they have computers on board, dont they?

  3. call the cruise line and ask if there will be access. Otherwise leave it home.

Ask asl if they have computers on board

  4. Absolutely!!!  I take my laptop on all the cruises I take.  And gosh, especially if you're going to be gone for 19 days+!!!

Most cruise ships offer internet too, but for a hefty price.  It's worth it though it you're going to be gone that long and want to check in on your emails.

The other thing is you just can' t possibly bring enough cards for your camera for that long period of time, so yes, why not upload it in your computer!  It makes for a really fun slideshow for you and your family when you're at sea.  And if you have a website, what better way to share your pics while you're away???  :)

It'll also be one less thing to take care of when you're done with your vacation and when you're on the plane you can spend that time labelling and organizing pics.

    Hope this helps, have fun!!!

  5. Depends on a couple of things. First, the laptop you have. If you have an older laptop or one that is heavy, you may not want to lug it around on the ship. Not to mention that it is going to take up more space in your cabin, though not much. Also, you have the risk of it getting lost or stolen.

Second will depend on the cruise ship. Make sure that wireless internet is going to be available for your cruise. If not, you don't want to bring it along, unless you need a place to store your photos.

Third is if you are looking to save money. Depending on the situation, you may spend less by bring your laptop, but it does depend. Some cruise lines offer wireless internet in the room, other offer a few areas on the ship that has wireless. Usually if it is in the room you will pay more using your own computer. However, if it is only a few areas of the ship, it is usually less than using their computers. Also, your computer will probably be a little faster, especially if it is newer, than what the ship offers, if you are paying $0.50 a minute or so, taking a few minutes just to log on can be a little annoying. Be sure to call NCL and ask what is going to be available. Also ask if there are any packages offered. Many times you can get a package for the length of your cruise, unlimited, that can save you a lot of money. Other times it is just bundles of minutes and it will save you a little.

When you are in port, you may be able to find a communication center as well. These are usually the least expensive ways to get connected while away. Some offer cheap long distance calls, others offer computers with internet access and some offer internet access for your laptop. So if you see one, or if you ask, definitely check it out, you can save a lot of money this way.

    Have a great time!
