Should I take my son to the Dr?

My husband had a bad cold and passed it on to my son, he is 18 months old and this is the first time he has had a cold or been sick at all. He doesnt have a temperature but is waking about 10 times a night and coughing very chesty cough. I have been rubbing special baby vicks on his chest and back and put a vapouriser in his room. DO you think I should take him to the DR and get a check up or am I over reacting?

  1. I think what you are doing is just fine now if he starts to run a fever and it lasts a few more days then you need to take him to the DR because he could start to get fluid in his lungs and that's not good so just hold out for 3-4 more days then go to the DR.

  2. Sounds like your doing what you can to help him for now. I would watch him over the next day or two and see if its getting worse or better. If it keeps getting worse then I would take him. Your not over reacting, just being a mom!

  3. My Dr always asks what color stuff are you coughing up. If its green then he gives antibiotics. If not, then its probably just a cold.

  4. Dry coughs arnt a problem there just virsus and they will go away

but if you think its a chesty sort of mucousy coff then he will need to go to the doctor and get some antibiotics.

Either way when there so young much better to be safe then sorry wiht little bodies :)

    Good luck!

  5. Yes i would take him because he may need infection meds. He needs coughing medicine too, imagine how uncomfortable your baby is when he goes into a coughing fit..

  6. Honey you are not over reacting at all, it is you being a loving Mum who cares about your bub.  I would take him to the Doctors, as it could be nothing, or it could be something ( i hope not ).

If the vapouriser and the vicks is not working, well obviously there could be something, maybe croup, or broncitis or even asthma, I know I'm not a doctor and I don't pretend to know everything, but I'm like you, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Good Luck with your beautiful bub, and let me know what the Doctors say please.

Keep your chin up, and try to get some rest.

  7. you should as he could prescribe him som meds to get rid of wat he has and if the doc says he doesnt need ant med than its not a waste of time bring him its just been a concern loving mum and safe than sorry. Get it check out as myou dont no what he has.

  8. if he has a chesty cough then it is a good idea to go to the doctor. There is so much around. my kids have got Upper respiratory infections at the moment. And everything you have described is what they have. (they have a temp tho) it may be he is at the start of something.  If it is just a cold then there is nothing they can do but it would be a good idea to get his chest checked

  9. you're overreacting... he'll be ok

  10. Don't worry ALL mothers over react when there baby gets sick for the first time especially if it is your first baby!!! In this weather his cold will more than likely last a while. There really isn't any miracle cure for a cold and if you take him to a doctor he will probably tell you what you already know yourself. BUT if you need peace of mind there is no harm taking your baby to the doctor for a check up anyway. And besides nobody knows your baby like you do and if you feel as though it has persisted long enough then you should follow your heart.

  11. With no temp, most likely nothing the doctors can do, as they wont offer antibiotics. Just continue what your doing. The vaporizer does wonders, as does the baby vicks :)

You could offer a bit of baby panadol. I found this help with my kids coughs a little.
