Question:

Should I take my toddler to the doctor?

Lately, it has been extremely hot where I live, and everytime my two year old daughter even gets slightly hot she breaks out everywhere with a heat rash. She looks like she has the chicken pox when she does it! It covers her whole body (even her scalp). After I get her cooled down, it goes away. I can't even let her go outside even in the shade. Should I take her to the doctor or would it be pointless. I have a feeling they are just going to tell me there is nothing they can do. Has anyone every experienced this or had a child who experienced this? If so, what were some methods to prevent it? I hate keeping her cooped up inside all day because she really loves the outdoors.

  1. I most definitely suggest you seek a medical opinion. She could very well be mildly allergic to the sun also. If you go and doc's conclude it's not too serious, they will still give you advice regarding over-the-counter remedies. If it's serious, then you can rest assured that the doctor will do everything s/he can to alleviate her symptoms or eliminate them altogether. It's always better to know than to wonder. :^)

  2. I have a one year old son and yesterday it was really hot where we live and he got a really bad rash on his back.  I think it was heat related also.  It has not gone away but what I did was give him a cool bath with Aveeno bath wash and rub the aveeno lotion on him as well.  It is getting better.  Try that and see how it works.  I did take him to the doctor and they perscribed  an oatmeal treatment to add to his bath water.  Make sure you are putting sunblock on her skin every time you take her outside and try to put a hat on her head as well.

She might be sensitive to extreme sunlight.

  3. i used to have this problem!  I used to live in Arizona and it would get soo hot.  When i sweated i would get hives, little bumps that look like chicken pox all over me.  My scalp 2.  My mom took me to the doctor and they gave me a cream.  I bet it would help if u brought ur daughter to the doctor. Hope this helps!!!!

  4. Of course you should take her to the doctor.

  5. Have you tried water sports?  There is not much you can do for heat rash except keep cool.  We live in Texas and our daughter gets it every summer.
