  1. debit/credit cards are very widely accepted everywhere, so you could always just use your cards.

  2. i usually take 100 pounds with me. it's enough to get my jet-lagged self somewhere to sleep and get fed. after that i use my debit card to get cash at any atm.

i use the visa card for lodging and food.

  3. You should bring a mix of money, travellers cheques and visa.  You can't rely solely on visa because your visa company might stop your card.  It's something they often do when holiday makers use their cards abroad.  If you only have visa and it is stopped then you are stuffed.

  4. I think the limit is GBP 10,000.  More than any sensible person would carry in cash!

I would bring some money with me, and then use the ATM in England.  Any card with a Visa, AMEX, Mastercard sysmbol should work in most ATM's in UK.  Or if your bank will charge a lot for overseas transactions, bring travellers cheques (but you'll pay transaction fees on those too).

  5. Yes - you most definitely should bring a lot of pounds with you - the more the better - The maximum you can bring is way way above what any normal person owns - so bring every thing you own.
