Question:

Should I take tennis lessons?

I'm 31 and I just played tennis last weekend for the first time in 20 years. I had a great time even though I was really rusty, out of breath, and a bit overweight. I think it's a great sport to get back in shape. To be somewhat competitive, should I take some lessons? Is there such thing as adult lessons?

  1. Tennis is a great sport and is very popular in the 30's. Definately, yes, there are adult tennis lessons and possibly group tennis lessons. obviously this will cost money. In Sydney a private lesson costs $70 per hour.

If you are planning to go into competitions etc. i recomment you to have training, however if you are just playing for fun i dont think theres no need for you to spend alot of money on training. Eventually you will get better just by practicing yourself!!

  2. well I am a 13 year old girl and I am going to be getting a private tennis instructor in the fall. I had one before but we stopped and are waiting for it too cool down (tenperature). there are defianetly such things asadult lessons. since you canta affod private lessons just get semi-private lessons where there will be about three other people in your group besides you. and to practice just go out in front of your driveway and hit the ball against the garage (on top where your address numbers are) and keep hitting it back and forth lol, thats what i do! =)

  3. If it's fun to you, definitely. Doesn't matter if it's tennis, snooker, rugby or whatever. If you like and enjoy it, do it!

Plus: it will be good for your health as well.

  4. Yes, a hundred times, yes! Tennis is fantastic sport. My cousin took adult lessons and she's pretty good now.

  5. And yes, there are adult tennis classes/clinics.   Check your local community college for tennis classes.  I started playing tennis at 28 years old, and took an intermediate class at a community college at age 30.  It only cost me $48 for 16 2-3 hour classes (once a week).  Most cities also have tennis clinics/ classes for both adults and juniors.  Look up some local tennis clubs/centers in your area for more information.

  6. Well if you can afford it, then sure. But you have to work hard.

When I started 9th grade I wanted to play a sport so badly. Because since my older 3 siblings played sports all throughout high school, my parents didn't have money for me to play until high school, when I can pay for it myself with babysitting money.

So obviously I didn't have money for lessons. They cost a fortune and all of the girls on the team took them and most of them couldn't hit a beach ball tossed right to them. Instead, I went to the library and took out books to learn the rules and how to play. I then practiced basically every day. I ended up being on Varsity the last half of the season my first year playing! I got really good, and I didn't take any lessons.

If you are doing it for fun and are worried about your money, don't take lessons. Just find a friend to do it with. But if you want to do it as an exercise program and have all the money in the world, then go ahead and take lessons.

*EDIT* Oh yeah, I'm sorry. I forgot. There IS such a thing as adult lessons. Tennis is such a great sport because it is great for people of ALL ages. Numerous times have I gone to the courts to practice and seen people probably in their 60s playing.  You are at a good age to play. Enjoy :)

  7. Yes, there are things as adult lessons. My advice would be to go to your local community college and take a beginner tennis class there. I did this and met several people in different age groups. This is a great way to get some pratice as my class had the automatic ball machines so we could pratice with the machines and be able to start some games with the other people in the class. The best part is that the cost for the class is cheaper than a private instructor. For my class, the cost was around $25 (including tuition and school fees) for 12 weeks.

  8. simple yes!

  9. Yes, there are adult lessons. You should go to your local Comunity center and see if they have a Teacher. My comunity has a teacher. I took lessons with him a while back but im only 15. I practiced at 6 but he gave adult lessons after i had my lesson.

If you wanted to practice, just go to the local court and find some people that are already playing and ask them to play. They also have the boards at all the courts. I would suggest getting a coach because otherwise you will be practicing and learning the wrong techniques.
