Question:

Should I take the ACT or SAT?

I am entering Sophmore next year and I've decided to prepare for college this summer.

Last summer, I prepared for my Freshman classes and did not really have time for the ACT.Now, I want to fully prepare for college standard tests, the ACT/SAT.

My goal is the Ivy schools and I would like to know if they accept SAT/ACT scores equally or they are one minded when it comes to this.

I went to Princetonreview.com and viewed which colleges accept what and I saw that the Ivy schools as well as others accept both the SAT and the ACT.

You may think I answered my own question but it's not the answer I am looking for.

I wish to know if they EQUALLY accept both or side minded with one. Again, I am already starting to prepare for the tests so I need to know which to go for and stick to it.

If I take the ACT and get a high score, will they look at it the same as looking at a high score on the SAT? - Basic line.

Thank you.

  1. most ivy league schools are east coast, and i guess the SAT is more widely accepted there.  i live in the midwest and was not even offered the chance to take the SAT, only the ACT because most schools out here prefer that.  so, i'd say take the SAT.

  2. I don't know about Ivy league, but the majority of colleges will take either ACT or SAT scores equally.

  3. Take SAT it is more popular and is easier and you can study with friends.

  4. dude i live near yale campus

    like 20min

and i'm looking toward goin to MIT hopefully

i did my research, they look at both of them equally

    it's either or

but if u had good in one and bad in other than may rethink ur scores but most likely they take ur best score in each section if u take SAT

  5. I think they weigh both of them the same.  It's the student's preference which one they want to take.  It's also a regional thing.  Some areas tend to have more students take one or the other.  Schools don't discriminate or look down on one test or the other.

Remember the Ivy Leagues are also very interested in other things you have going for you.  If you've got good grades and great test scores, you should also have a lot of leadership experience and be involved in your community and in extracurriculars.
