Question:

Should I take this super hard math class?

Okay, so I took Geometry in the summer this year and I'm supposed to take it this school year. Since I passed the midterm and final with good grades, my counselor told me I can skip the class and go directly onto Advanced Trig and Algebra 2.

There are pros and cons to both of the classes.

--If I take Geometry again, I will be the best in the class.

--If I take the advanced class, it would look good on my applications because I will be the youngest in the class, and I will have more opportunities to take more challenging classes in the future.

What should I do????

Thank you so much for your help!! :)

  1. i took trig honors and feel in love with the class!

but part of it was that i had a great teacher

but if  you like math u should totally go for it

my class was very hard , lots of homework, quizzes and tests'

but i don't regret taking it

i would take it again if i had the chance to lol

  2. algebra 2 is so easy....

advanced trig, how hard could that be, im in precalculus, its fun...

  3. I think if you feel like you really understand everything you learned in Geometry, then you should go ahead and go on to the higher class. Trig and Algebra 2 really aren't even that bad. Plus, if you continue to advance in your math classes year after year you will have a greater opportunity to knock any math credits you will need in college out of the way!

  4. I suggest taking the advanced class, and I have a few reasons:

    1) if I was retaking a class that I already had good grades in, I would probably get bored, stop doing the assignments, and end up with worse grades.  But maybe you are a better student than I was.  In that case:

    2) if only want to take the minimum math classes required to graduate then not taking the class again frees up time to take an elective that interests you.

    3) You are talking about college applications.  Does your school offer Advanced Placement courses?  If so, you can get college credit for taking calculus in high school.  This will end up saving you money, even if you don't major in math or science, you can use this credit for a general studies math requirement.

    4) Obviously, you are pretty good at math (or you wouldn't have gotten the good grades over the summer).  Math gets more interesting at higher levels.  Go for the harder classes.

  5. If you take Geometry again, during the year, it'll feel like a waste of time.

I took Algebra 1 in college after I had taken Calculus 1, 2, & 3, and Differential Equations.  I completely regreted it.  It was so flippin' boring.

Take the challenge, and try something different.
