Question:

Should I teach overseas if I do not have a teaching certificate?

I have been hired to teach in South Korea, but I lack the teaching experience or certificate. I have a Bachelors degree and have education administration experience. Should I still be concerned that I lack this credential? I want to know if there are any courses I can take on a fast-track pace to prepare for the work ahead. I leave in October 2008. Thank you

  1. Yes! Go for it! That sounds like a terrific experience. If they hired you, does it matter whether you have the certificate? I would go and never look back!

  2. If they are willing to take you on without credentials, and you feel competent in the field you intend to teach, go ahead.

  3. Hi. I taught in Ethiopia for 2 years. While I do have a degree in this, I would have done it even if I hadn't. It will be the best experience of your entire life- even if you miss home terribly. If you have the chance, don't turn it down. Oh, and it will look really cool on your resume when you get back to the States. Just have an open mind and you'll be fine. Good luck!
