I am currently signed off with depression due to a bad time in my present job.

I have an interview tomorrow for a fantastic role which sounds like just what I need!

However, should I tell the interviewer I am signed off at the moment?

  1. I believe that legally they can only ask IF you are, but not WHY you are.

Aside from that, it's up to you what you say or don't say. Although you may want to consider whether this situation will affect the position if it's offered to you. If not, then it's probably not the best thing to bring up in an interview.

  2. Don't ask don't tell

  3. You should never lie during an interview - it can be grounds for immediate termination later if it is discovered you lied.  The conversation during an interview should cover your qualifications for the job being offered - and that's it.  If your being signed off will impact your ability to perform the job, then you need to talk about it; if it will not impact your ability to do the job, then it is irrelevant and you do not need to talk about it.
