  1. I dont think so, i mean i dont tip at the drive thru and to me its the same thing, the tip is supposed to be for the person that comes by and makes sure you have everything you need as you are eating and they arent doing that right, i say no

  2. no. only unless you eat at a place should you tip. or maybe when you have something delivered

  3. Yes you should if you are given courteous service and everything is correct.  Usually the person who is doing the take out is also the bartender.  I have been that person.  That person is usually responsible for doing everything they would have done for you with the exception of the drinks.  I would probably tip 5-10% for take out as opposed to the 15-20% for sit down service.  The people who work in a restaurant live on tips and rarely make more than 2.13 an hour.

  4. I used to work at Applebees and we had the carside to go service.  Here's what I suggest.

Normally you tip on the service you receive at a table.  How friendly, how thorough, if they listened to you and took the correct order.  If they checked up on you, checked the food before bringing it to you to make sure it had all you asked for and nothing else.  Etc.

With "To Go" services, the server still needs to take your order, often they need to expo it (put all the sauces in containers and organize it in the to go box), check that the order is correct, help cooks keep the time deadline and keep your food fresh, and bring it to you by the window or at your car in timely and professional manner.  It you are satisfied with all that service, it is polite to tip them.  However, Because you're not receiving full service--a 10% tip is definitely sufficient.  But any tip should be gratefully received.

A normal service sit down style tip should be 15% and 20% if it's exceptional!  Many people are mistaken by that.

  5. Tips are for the waiting staff, the person that waits your table and the bus boy that cleans up after you.  If it's take out, there is no waiter and no bus boy.  I would not tip for take out.

  6. No...a tip is for good service throughout a meal..all they do is hand you a bag...here's a tip for everyone...STOP expecting a Tip when a tip is not due.

  7. Yes, always tip. Even if you can only tip like $2, always tip.
