I have been thinking about trading my ION in for an Astra, maybe not for another 6 months or so...

What are your thoughts? I know that Im being kind of vague about the year of my ION and how much I owe, but this is just a thing that I'm thinking about.. not sure.

  1. No, you shouldn't unless your ION was a piece of junk.

Of course, if it were a POS, then you wouldn't want another Saturn.

So, no.  You should keep the ION as long as possible.

  2. Yeah sure go ahead. The Astra is a nice car. Most people don't know this, but the Ion is built on the Chev Cobalt frame & uses the same engines. It's still a nice car. I do hate that off center dash. The Astra is a rebadged Opel import from Europe. It has alot of that European style & I find that attractive. What I don't like are the Saturn dealers. I find them arrogant & narrow minded. I went to look at a Vue & they gave me the worst trade in on my car & basically called it a pos. I said to heck with all American cars makers & bought a Nissan. I am also tired of our cars having the worst resale values out there. And that's something you need to consider. The Astra, while being a nice car, is probably not going to have anything going for it later.

If your Ion is giving you trouble or if you have the extra cash & want a change of scenery, the Astra is still nice despite what I said. You should also know, if you already don't, that the Astra's auto trans disengages after sitting still for a moment to save on fuel. That's a nice touch. Visit www.kbb.com for a good estimate on what your car is worth. Then call the bank & ask them waht the payoff is. If the figures are really close, then your deal will simply wash out the Ion loan as if it didn't matter. There are some rebates on the Astra, so shop that closely. G'luck!
