Question:

Should I travel with my puppy?

My adopted mutt Macho is going to have to travel quite a bit in his lifetime. My husband and I live overseas, and we know that we will all move back to the US some time in mid-2009. It's important to us that Macho gets some travel practice before the big 12-hour plane trip. Right now Macho is 7.5 weeks old, and I just bought him a crate which he is getting accustomed to using. My question is: Are puppies ready for a 3-hr drive and weekend trip to the beach by the age of 14 weeks? He will be vaccinated by that time. My husband and I would like to go out of town and would prefer to take Macho with us if he can handle it. Advice? Suggestions? Would love to hear from someone who's traveled with their puppy.

Thanks!

  1. It's a great thing if you can take him.  The more exposure a dog gets the more stable they will be.  Just take everything you need including his crate and maybe and exercise pen, and don't forget to not leave him in the car.

  2. As long as he is properly vaccinated.  I think it's great that you would like to take him everywhere.  And it's good practice for the dog.  He'll be fine at 14 weeks.  Make sure he has good collar, name tag and microchip.
