Question:

Should I trust a Kryptonite Evolution mini??

Have just got a fairly expensive new bike and I am a bit paranoid if this lock that I'm using is up to the job..I've been reading up about them on the internet and they get mixed reviews, but mostly relating to the 'bic pen' scandal..

I'm not sure if I should take heed to those comments though, as the mini lock I have has the new flat key design. Does anyone have actual negative experience with these?

  1. Lot of folks use the Mini style in conjunction with a vinyl covered steel cable. They loop the cable around the front tire and then connect it to the lock which secures the frame or rear tire. Mini's are theoretically harder to pry open than full size u-locks, but since they are smaller, it will be a little harder to find poles that will fit the lock. A compromise would be the mini in LS form.

Also check out the Soma version of the Krypto. It's a little cheaper.

No lock is undefeatable. The key is to make your bike the hardest to steal of all the bikes on the bike rack.
