  1. drums

  2. Bass! Grow some long-@ss hair and show the devil horns every once and a while.

  3. if you're doing it to make money or ease into a band,  try the bass.  there always seems to be a shortage for bass players on the music scene.

  4. i play the drums... thought id just say that. id say both instruments are pretty tough. bass to learn all the notes and drums to uhh hit stuff at different times.

  5. A keyboard or a piano first.

  6. Both require a great deal of practice to become truly proficient on either one. I know because I play both as well as a couple of other instruments (I come from a musical family).

Bass guitar might cost you less than a drum set. Lessons for either will cost about the same, depending upon your area. Don't expect to perform the solo from some rock anthem on either instrument any time soon. That takes hours and hours of practice but CAN be achieved providing you are serious enough to do the rehearsing needed.

I like the drums because I can slip on my headphones and play along with the music I have in my collection. It's stress relief to pound the drums!  Bass guitar is my funky music side coming out to play. It can be a really fine way to groove through the afternoon.

As for wanting to learn, GOOD FOR YOU!! You are never too old to learn something new.
