Question:

Should I try for a management position with my company? (More turnovers than an apple)?

I have worked for a very large nightclub/entertainment center since March of last year. Last November I was laid off (Company has 500 employees during summer and 100 during winter) and then rehired in May. During that time, my previous manager was fired and one of my colleagues was promoted to that position. Two days ago, that guy was fired.

I learned from people who have worked for the company for a while that 6 people have held that position in the last 7 years and every one of them were fired for various reasons (This company is known for high turn over, but this position especially)

I know my job will end again come Novemeber, I don't neccessarily have all the skills needed for the job (doubt most of the previous guys did either) but I have the drive and some knowledge. I know it would pay about 3x what I'm making now.

Should I try for this position even with the high turn over rate? This position is year round.

  1. Why not?

The worst that could happen is you're turned down and do as usual, working there in summer and not in winter.

    Go for it!

  2. Since you are probably going to be laid off as seasonal help anyway, go for the management position.

You can either be laid off as a seasonal worker from you current position or be laid off as a manager.  There is a chance you will be retained over the winter in the management position and make a permanent place in that role.  You could be the survivor if you find the key to doing the job.

If you are a seasonal worker anyway, what have you got to lose?
