There's this kickline team at the high school I'm going to. You have to try out in 8th grade in order to be on the team in 9th grade. I have been dancing for about nine years now. 7 years of ballet, 2 years jazz, 1 year hip-hop, 2 years tap and 2 summers of kickline dance camp. This year I'm taking ballet, jazz, hip-hop and lyrical. I am on the kickline team at my middle school and I'm just worried about not making it in high school because they only take the best of the best. I'm good but I don't know if I'm that good. Of all the girls who tried out last year (about 23) only 1 made it (and her parents worked in the district so i think it was rigged.) My kicks are awesome, but I just don't want to get my spirit crushed. Should I try out and if i do what should I expect in the try-outs? thanx =)

  1. Try out you will do fine.:)

  2. yes you should try out, and if you don't make it then there is always the next year. and also the coaches can see if there is great potential in you. and if you don't make it then the coaches would've seen you dance consider you for next year if anything.

you could expect to learn a kick routine and perform it in small groups and  then some skills like some turns, leaps, splits and kicks individually.

well thats how my highschool dance team does tryouts, but we're good at both high kick and jazz, so i'm assuming that your school focuses on highkick. most high school dance teams are only good at high kick or jazz.

  3. you should definitely try out!  I mean, after all, you'll never know the outcome of the try-outs, if you never participate.  You should strive to reach higher things, even if they're impossible.  Don't act like you lost before they begin. give yourself a chance!  You should go to the try out and act as if you already won and you're good enough for them!

  4. hmm just go with your gut feeling(:

  5. Yes try out. You will regret it if you don't. I was a dancer for years and was on my high school drill team. And if you don't make it, so what? There's plenty of opportunities out there waiting for you.

  6. Yes, definitely try out.  Make it as fun of an experience as you can.  And, remember, their decision does not reflect who or what you are.  It does sound competitive but seek to win.

  7. Yes, try.  Just don't expect to win. Participate for the sake of doing so,  Then, if you win you will be happy for a moment,

    Being anxious does not help.

  8. Of course you should try out, because if you don't try out later you'll be telling yourself "Aw c**p, I should ave at least given it a try", plus after 9 years of practice you should be more than good enough to be on the team, it's wroth a try anyway. If I were you I'd do it, and even if you don't make it, it tells you you had the guts.

  9. As long as you try your best you will do fine. I danced for 14 years and every time i moved up i was worried on what to expect but every time i did fine. If you really want it and try hard I am sure you will do just fine. I am glad i tried every time i moved up and even if i did bad i would have never known if i could and i would have regretted it. GOOD LUCK :)

  10. You need to listen to what your heart tells you. You may suprise yourself. I would definately say try out- and if they don't take you then try out again next year.

I've been a dancer for 12 years- just a few days ago- I was going to a differen't dance school & the owner wanted to "see what I could do" so I showed her tap & jazz. She was the least bit impressed- she said "Oh I feel so bad for you, you don't even know know the basics! It's not your fault it really isnt- the best I can do for you is put you in a class with 13 year olds (I'm 17) and they are still going to be a little more advanced as you- other than that there really isn't anything- it will take about 4 years for you to catch up with private lessons"

So after being completely bashed told that me past dance teacher knew nothing adn telling me i couldn't even dance (Her dance school was **** anyway I don't even know why I was even considering going there) I cired on my moms shoulder the whole way home- with her telling me that you are a dancer and she knows nothing as well as my boyfriend and the rest of my family on my side. I then deicded to go back to my old dance school & now I'm currently taking private lessons and doing a solo.

I can't wait to see that 3itchy owner at the other dance school see my face on my town's newspaper when I'm a dancer for Walt Disney World.

So- don't sweat it. I'm sure you'll do wonderful- You need to have faith and you need to believe in yourself. If your not going to (the strongest person) then no-one else can.
