  1. Yes! I have been playing for 3 years now with my high school team. Water polo is only rough if you make it rough. You can be a good player without ever being hurt. Just stay calm and keep your head. When other people play rough, just laugh at them. Thats always fun because then they get mad!! I love playing water polo! But even more, I love practicing and learning all of the techniques to play better. Definitly try out! Also, the fact that you have been swimming for 5 years means that you won't be too wiped out. Hopefully you have a large team. (the fact that you will have to try out for the team also indicates that there are so many people wanting to play that they have to cut the size). Water polo is demanding, you do need to be physically fit, so if you are a swimminer than i don't think that you have too much to worry about. Worse comes to worse, you could quit and try something else, but I bet you would enjoy it!

PS- your first game will be your worst, I know that you will be extremely confused, but after the first one, you will start to have fun.

  2. Yes, you might be a star.

  3. I don't no it depends if u like it. If u do go all the way and do it!

  4. dude it is rough but i have a feeling u willl succeed, u have to be buff

  5. Just because you've been on a swim team doesn't mean you'll be a good polo player. For instance are you a freestyler, a backstroker, do you swim distance or are you a sprinter. The differences are astounding. being a backstroker may not prepare you to do the "egg-beater" kick needed to propel yourself high enough out of the water to shoot. If you've been a distance swimmer, you may have the conditioning to last the game but you may not have the quick "kick" for the transitions in water polo. How about the upper body strength it takes to hold off a defender and maintain possession without getting "sunk". There are a lot more things to consider about water polo than "Can I swim" Here's what I would do.. go play around with a couple people who know the game shoot, pass, dribble, let them show you some basics, scrimmage a little. maybe play a little 4 v 4 and see if you like that then let somebody really take you on and get you pissed at them and see if you want to swim through them or skim one off their cap a couple times. Oh yea get in the middle of the pool and have somebody have you do up/downs egg-beater style for about 10 minutes. If you're not on the bottom then you should go ahead.

  6. yeah

  7. you should definitely try out for polo, I have been playing for 3 years!  It's a great sport, and you're right it is verrrryyy rough, but what sport isn't?  If you have been swimming that long and you're any decent, then you would be a benefit to the team as thier sprinter.
