Question:

Should I try to fix my T.V. myself, have it repaired, or replace it?

I went to watch TV and when I pressed the "POWER" button, the screen remained black, and the only sound that emitted was that of a static electricity discharge. Then for about three hours it made that same discharge sound every five seconds until it was unplugged. When I plugged it back in, it made a single, continuous, high pitched ringing sound and continues to do so for as long as it is plugged in. The screen still does absolutely nothing and the ringing is the only sound the TV makes. The TV is a large Entertainment Series RCA and will be costly to replace. It was plugged into a surge-protective strip outlet when the problem was discovered, but the problem persists even when plugged directly into a wall outlet. Can I fix it myself? About how much would it cost to have it repaired? Will it be possible to get a refund from the manufacturer considering the fact that I didn't buy a warranty for it and have had it for around five years? Any help or advice is appreciated.

  1. Your warranty is long gone. You can take to a repaiman and get an estimate. It could be something minor. But with everything going digital in 2009 make sure that yours in compatible before you put $$$ in it.
