My son is friends with a neighbor who is taken care of by his grandparents. They go to the same school. My job doesn't allow me enough time to get my son to school in time so I asked the grandmother if she would mind having my son in the morning the hour before school and taking him to school with her grandson. She said "sure, no problem we would love to have him" When I mentioned paying her she told me she didn't want to charge anything for him since he is always so good when he is there and she has to go to the school anyway. My question is.....should I try to pay her anyway? Let it go? Or anyone have any ideas of what I could do for her in appreciation? (I am not really friends with them but the boys are very close)

  1. maybe just buy her a nice bunch of flowers or something to say thanks??

  2. I would say that this lady sounds very, very kind to be doing this for you.  If she refuses payment, I think you should drop that idea and maybe instead try to make friends with her and offer her help with her grandson when it is needed.  Also, make an effort to do nice little things for her once in a while, like buy her a book by her favorite author or send her a fruit basket on her anniversary.  Just show you are thankful, and that will be all the payment required! (:

  3. If they refuse payment, then insisting on doing so might offend them.

Since your son is there anyway, ask if there is something they like.

Perhaps something silly as chocolate cake. Then, make one, and give that as a thank you.

You`ll probably be invited for coffee/tea - so be prepared to spend some time.

Or maybe they`ll need help one day, and you could return the favor.

And, yes, there are people out there truly generous.

    Treasure them.
