  1. turn it off. Duh. You waste more energy having it on. i always turn the pc off. If im not using why waste money.

  2. it depends on how much time ur using it. If ur giving a long break in middle  then its better if u switch off. y 2 simply waste electricity yaar,

  3. It is cheaper to turn off any electrical device, rather than leaving it on.

If you aren't using electricity, you don't pay for it.

  4. its better to get the system switched off!

dont waste the power until you have any use on it ok?

  5. Well you can put it on sleep or hibernation, if you want to save power. And u can turn off the monitor. I usually turn on PC in the morning and turn off when i go to bed.

  6. hi there

this is a popular question and i would say the answer is "no"

turning off your p.c several times a day will not save any money ,and by turning it off all the time you shorten the life span of your hard drive, thats why many pc users including myself leave my pc on all through the day, however i do switch it off at night, mainly because of the 4 x fans running in the case, allthough these are not that loud in the dead of the night they can become pretty annoying

leave your pc on all day,it wont harm, however theres also several options built into windows that can save your electricity for example

1.screensaver : the windows screensaver in display properties is easily configured and can be set to begin from as little as one minute upwards

2.power settings : the power options in the control panel allow you to set particular power saving profiles, this can be configured for office users or even gamers

               any problems let me know

                        good luck !

  7. i personally have mine on 24~7.

you may save money turning it on and off.

but the voltage surge when you turn it back on is a possible cause for breakdowns of components.

the choice is yours ~save a small amount monthly or pay the bill for a spare part.

  8. turn it of even though it uses very little energy while in stand by, it dosent use any extra to power up so when you aren't on it you are using some electricity, an over 365 days that adds up.

  9. I think its best to leave it on. Everytime you switch in on lots of bits inside are having to power up and that means lots of wear and tear on them.

  10. If you have Vista then put it to Hibernate before going out:

    1. Control Panel

    2. System and Maintenance

    3. Power Options

    4. Choose what the power button does (left margin)

    5. When I press the power button: Hibernate

    6. Require a password (if grey click on 'change settings that are currently unavailable'.

  11. On average you spend about $13.00 dollars a month on having your pc on 24hrs a day. So its up to you whether you feel like paying that $13.00. I personally run a home server so I have it on 24/7 and I don't mind paying that $13.00.

  12. This particular computer has been on 24/7/365 for the last five years. I have found that it makes very little difference to the bill one way or another. I have run them like that for 14 years with no problem.

The only thing that switches off is the monitor after an hour.

The only real answer is do what you want and not what your told by all the scaremongers in this world about another thousand polar bears are going to die because you leave your computer on.

Which in my opinion is a load of mass hytsteria hogwash to s***w more money out of the taxpayers and a blank cheque to Governments.

  13. i've also thought about this and i've come to the conclusion  that it is worse to keep turning the computer on and off all day so i turn it on in the morning and turn it off when i go to bed,but my computer goes into standby mode after bout 20 Min's of not using it which reduces the amount of electricity being used without turning it off look at your power settings in control panel hope this helps

  14. This is just to sad, i cant face it much longer, just understand that im insulting you, alot, and drawing my friends attention to such a swear swaer swear question.. i leave my car running to save fuel to, and i allways stand up so i eat less , i mean r u on drugs or what..

  15. Yes I have a surge protector on mine and I switch it off from there.

  16. Yes, turn it off

Having said that, it may depend on your computer.

If it takes an extreemly long time to boot up, it might be better to just leave it on, however if that is the case, it is probably time to get a new computer, as these will boot up faster as well as having more efficient power supplies in the first place

New computers are extreemly cheap these days, compared to what they used to be, take a look at the sources for more info

In any case, leaving any computer on for long periods increaces the wear and tear on the moving parts. If you turn your computer off, then these moving parts spend less time moving and will thus suffer less wear and tear.

I would reccomend getting solar tiles if you are worried about energy costs; who isn't these days. While this is, initially, a large investment, it will mean that you no longer need to pay for electricity, so will pay for itself very quickly. More info in the sources.

Solar tiles are the same as normal roof tiles, however they can convert the energy from the sun in to electricity.

That way, you can run your computer, all year long, for free!

However, like I said previously, from a wear and tare point of view, it would be best to turn it off when you are not using it.

  17. Its up to you, what ever you prefer.

  18. turn off,
