  1. There are three main ways lightning enters homes and buildings: (1) a direct strike, (2) through wires or pipes that extend outside the structure, and (3) through the ground. Regardless of the method of entrance, once in a structure, the lightning can travel through the electrical, phone, plumbing, and radio/television reception systems. Lightning can also travel through any metal wires or bars in concrete walls or flooring. If you plan to unplug any electronic equipment, do so well before the storm arrives.

EDIT - It's important to note that surge protectors don't give you complete protection. A direct lightning strike is an absolutely massive discharge of electricity; a surge protector probably won't stop such a huge surge from damaging things in your home. Surge protectors are also of limited value when surges last some time and they don't protect against higher than expected currents from the power grid.

  2. I doubt the internet will be affected by lightning

However it is best to have a surge protector, it will protect your computer. If you don't, just unplug it. (if you're not using the computer)

  3. what are the chances, honestly, of lightning hitting your satellite. honestly. lightning always goes for metal at the highest point so unless you live on the top floor of a skyscraper building keep the internet on lol

    Byee x*x

  4. You can turn off the internet? o.O

I just unplug my computer/modems/routers from wall sockets =o

  5. I don't know about the internet...but when there is a storm every one has told me to turn off my computer. I advise the same. Or you can take the chance.

  6. I would. Why tempt fate or mother nature?

  7. Yes you should unless you have a surge protected plug in.

  8. just keep using it unless you feel the power is about to go out or have a surge protection.

  9. if i were u, i would turn it off.

    reason: safety.

  10. It is best to turn off your computer unless you have one heck of a surge protector.  It can fry your computer and then you have lost everything vs. being without it for as long as the storm lasts.
