Question:

Should I uninstall my CD Burner?

I have a MITSUMI CR-48XGTE, and for the past few months, it hasn't been working. (I've tried Nero Express and iTunes) I'll press Burn CD on iTunes/Nero, then it will ask for a blank disc, I'll insert one into the drive, and then the computer freezes, the only way it stops being frozen up is if I eject the blank disc. I've tried updating the drive, but nothing happens. I was wondering if I should uninstall the drive, and then reinstall it, which brings me to my next question, how do you reinstall the CD burner after it has been uninstalled? Sorry if my question is sort of confusing, I don't know much about computers!

  1. It sounds like the drive may be defective. These days, CD-ROM/CDRW do not need special drivers -- they are built into the operating system. If the drive has problems reading/writing disks, the solution is to replace it. CD burners are cheap these days. You should be able to pick one up for <$25.

  2. your drive is worn out. Fit a new one.
