Should I update my PS3 to 2.42?

I want to play GTA IV online and as I know, I'd have to update to the newest firmware version... is it safe to do so? I don't want my PS3 to stop reading disks...

And what else should I download? I've heard about some patches that Rockstar did...

  1. Yes, update 2.41 was made to fix the problems from 2.40, and 2.42 was to double check if there were any more problems.

    It won't cause any problems, and if there is any, it's most likely unrelated to the firmware updates
