Should I upgrade Vista?

I am currently running Windows Vista Home Premium for a while and I am thinking of upgrading to Vista Ultimate. But, I also triple-boot Windows XP and Ubuntu at the same time using Vista's Disk management for a while. Will upgrading harm/destroy my XP and Ubuntu? Thanks!

  1. Vista Ultimate is packed with features that aren't made for all users. For example Bit Locker. Unless you handle corporate date and stuff like that, which you think its of the highest importance then you won't find a use for Bit Locker. Needless to say you would need to at least 3 or 4 gb of ram for it to run smoothly. I'm currently running Vista Business and it has most of the features of Ultimate. In Business you can Encrypt data just like in XP. If you were to upgrade go with Business. Windows XP SP 3 might just do the trick as well.

  2. I don't think Vista Ultimate is worth it. Unless you get a fee upgrade, that $100+ cost is not worth the little addition of features. Home Premium is as good as Ultimate. And if you want more features, there's open-source/free software that does the same.

I doubt it'll affect your boot options.

  3. It'll be fine. You buy a licence key for the upgrade and insert your Vista disc. All that happens is a modification to the components in Vista, the other partitions and boot management will be untouched.   I haven't seen much in Ultimate that makes it a must have, but that wasn't your question!

  4. No it would not! GO ahead!
