Question:

Should I upgrade my paintball tank from a co2 tank to a compressed air / nitrogen tank?

I want to know because i have a tippmann 98 custom in which I used the co2 for but now I'm getting a proto slg so I want to upgrade to compressed air / nitro I really want one but if I do buy one there are a few things that concern me. will the tank be larger then my 20 oz co2 tank? Will i have to fill it more often then my co2 tank, how many shots will it get? Also a little side question are there any charts that show size tanks to how many shots a tank gets?

  1. you will most likely need to get used to it a little because the air tank attaches differently. There's a tube that leads to the tank which is typically on your back. I don't know what your getting, so i can't answer most of those other questions. But i find that my air tank vs. rented co2 tanks = my air tank getting more shots. It feels more like your holding a real gun without the co2 tank prodding into your chest. Lastly, at my place, it is cheaper to get an air tank refilled, i'm not sure about your paintball arena. Hope I helped.

  2. First off, if your getting a proto SLG, you dont have a choice but to switch to HPA (compressed air). If you try to run an SLG off of CO2 you will overpressurized it, and break it.

next, yes, HPA tanks are usually larger than a standard 20oz CO2 tank. But they make them in carbon fiber, and in different ci (cubic inch) sizes. So you dont have to use a huge tank. As for shots per fill, you wont get as many per fill of HPA. But most fields fill HPA for free, so if your playing at a field, then it shouldn't really matter.

Last off, there arent any specific charts online about shots per fill because each gun has different air efficiency, and there are multiple sizes of tanks.

dang, Paco got first answer. I typed too slow. oh well,  he has good info.

  3. Ok so the guy who says compressed air/nitro is attached different is wrong, you can use a remote line on nitro/compressed air/ and Co2. If you get a proto slg you will need nitro or hpa so that you dont damage the gun. As for size, most hpa or nitro tanks are bigger than Co2 tanks and you will end up getting less shots compared to Co2, but its worth it and most of the time cheaper to fill.

  4. Compressed air tanks are expessive but the are worth it after a couple games. most fields offer it for free. no you can get a small one.
