This sounds kind of dumb, but should I? I've never seen the musical onstage before, but i have seen the movie and they talk english. I know that alot of movie musicals dont "tell it like it is", so that's why im asking.

  1. Don't, unless you're specifically asked to by the auditioners.

  2. In addition, it's set in Austria, but you notice they don't use an Austrian/German accent either, for the most part.

A word of caution for your audition...most stage scripts of SOM are significantly different than the movie version. Don't sweat it, but be prepared for Else and Max to have much larger roles, the Captain and those two have additional scenes and songs, and familiar lines will be missing or altered.  It's still much the same, just don't let it throw you. Break a leg at auditions!

  3. If you don't naturally have an ENGLISH accent, please don't attempt one. "They talk English"    sigh. One reason the cast speaks that way in the film, and or on stage, is either that they are from the UK, or already have the job, and have the accent "spot on" no matter where they are from.
