Should I use the money?

I am a Heavy equipment operator.. I worked for the IUOE (International Union of Operating Engineers) and now that there is lack of work for a new Union Employee it has put me out of work. Without any work, I am on the verge of getting my phone turned off and, loosing my car insurance, etc. With little unemployment Insurance, I am able to provide food, hot water, and lights for my family but I do not know how long it will last.I plan on filling out the applications for positions in which I am more than qualified for (and pretty sure I would get the job). But the problem resides in the fact that I do not have enough money to pay for gas, phone, insurance and other necessities until I get my first check from the new company.

Should I use part of the $2500 I set aside in my child's Savings account so that I can get the job I so desperately need? Paying it back would take some time as I would have to work my way back up the ladder.

(I dont have anyone to barrow from )

  1. Have you applied for welfare assistance or food stamps?

  2. No, you can't do that. It is illegal, unless you have the child give you written permission (even if you were the one who deposited it into the account). There also may be tax penalties for doing so.

Did you set up any savings for yourself? Your best bet is to probably wait it out until you can get another job (if it is as quick as you say).
