Should I vaccinate for FIP?

I have Vaccinated my cats with their first dose of the leukemia vaccination and the fip vaccination -in a week it will be time for the second dose but I have learned that the fip vaccination isnt very effective and it is very costly would it be harmful to them if I didnt vaccinate for the second dose of FIP and only vaccinated for the leukemia?? [ there are 2 cats close by that has been tested positive for both FIP and leukemia but my cats are not in direct contact with them -the one that tested positive for FIP also has gingivitis and the veterinarian said that it could have been a false reading because of the gingivitis ] Would it harm my cats to only continue vaccinating for the leaukemia and not continue the FIP vaccination I am concerned because they have already had one dose of the FIP vaccination???

  1. Tammy research this vaccine-  I believe that if given it will give the cat positive FIP test results for the rest of its life and this is the concern with that: if your cat is taken in to a shelter ( if it gets out or ect)- the shelter immedately tests kitty for anything- the cat who has been vaccinated for FIV will show positive for it and be put down immediately- shelters don't know that it is the vaccine and not the disease that is giving them a positive reading.  Soooo- there is allot of contraversey surrounding this issue- my vet did not recommend it but... who knows.. your call
