Should I visit Reykjavik in September or is accomodation and travel really restricted?

I want to go to Iceland with my girlfriend in September but have heard travel and accomodation is severely limited. Does this also apply to Reykjavik or are things better here? Can you visit the nearby attractions (Geysir, Blue Lagoon etc) easily or do they shut down? Is it possible to see the Northern Lights from there or do you need to go further afield?

  1. You can reach the major attractions all year round, but the intervalls in between the busses may be a little longer than during the high season. The cheap summer hotels are usually (boarding) schools, so they are not available in September, but normal hotels and many campsites (though I would not recommend them in the fall) are still open. Northern Lights are normally only seen during the winter, so no luck there. Be prepared to spend a lot of money on accomodation and food - Iceland is the most expensive country in the world! But the nature is unique and really worth the trip.
