Question:

Should I visit Yellowstone and Glacier NP in a one week vacation?

...or should I just go to one of them and spend all of my time there? I am thinking of going out to Montana/Wyoming in late June for 7 -10 days, and would love to see both parks, but am wondering if I'll have the time. I'd also like to visit one or more ghost towns while I'm out that way. Should I land at an airport somewhere between the two? Any suggestions?

  1. I have been to both parks and by far, Glacier is one of the most beautiful parks in the world!  scenery is phenomonal.  Last year, I flew into Kalispel and spend about 10 days visiting Glacier and western Montana and northern Idaho.  It was a fantastic trip.  I spend 4 days in Glacier, which was just about right.  Did some hiking and lots of sightseeing.  Make sure that you don't spend all of your time in the park as there is lots to see and do around the park.

I think that it would have been too much to see both Glacier and Yellowstone at once.

Yellowstone has lots to see and do.  While at Yellowstone, you MUST also go also see the Grand Teton National Park, Jackson,Wyoming, Cody, Wyoming (home of the Buffalo Bill museum!.  I visitied there a couple of years ago.  THis time it was early fall (around Oct 1).  the wildlife viewing was totally awesome.  Elk were in the town square of Mamoth Springs!; huge herds of buffalo crossing the road, moose, grizzly, etc.  The fall colors were picture perfect.

Ghost towns are all around, you need to pick one of the areas and contact the chamber of commerce for a list of things to do.  Ask them about the nearest ghost town.

Enough bs for now........have a great trip!

  2. Definitely land as close as you can to your destination.  Yellowstone is a great park, but just how long can you watch a geyser and wait for it to erupt.  There are other places at Yellowstone that looks like time stood still from it's very beginnings.  The old lava flows that still bubbles, the sulfur smells.  they say it's just like it was at the beginning of time.  Don't know how true it is.  anyway, they have lots of animals that roam around too.  I think you should have enough time to see other parks.  Not to many in just one week though.  If you really want to enjoy doing all these things, you need more time because you will be rushed to get to the next point and won't really have enough time to enjoy what you came for.  If you can get more than a week, I would do it.  If not, then come back.  Enjoy one or two parks and take it all in.  then you can come back and visit ghost towns.  That I would love to do.  Can I go with you? lol
