Question:

Should I visit the baby?

I have a sore scratchy throat, dull headache, stuffy nose, greenish mucous. I am prone to allergies but I am not sure if this is caused by allergies or a virus. I am supposed to visit a 3 month old baby this evening. Should I still go? I will ask the mother but knowing her she will say yes for me to still come. And I don't want to give the baby a cold!!

  1. No way!  As much as I love my friends and family, I would be annoyed if someone brought those ailments over.  I'm no doctor, but green mucous is generally a sign of sickness.  Please stay home and get your rest!

  2. NO DONT GO.

BABIES IMMUNE SYSTEMS ARE SO NEW, THEY ARE EXTREMELY SENSITIVE TO ANYTHING AND IT TAKES THEM FOREVER TO GET RID OF SOMETHING THEY MAY CATCH, JUST HOLD OFF ON VISITING HIM UNTIL YOUR INFECTION GOES AWAY, YOU DEFINETLY DONT WANT TO PASS ANYTHING TO THE BABY.

AND AS FOR THE MOM, SHE'S IGNORANT AND NAIVE IF SHE DOES TELL YOU TO GO AHEAD AND COME, WHEN I HAD MY DAUGHTER I MADE SURE PPL WASHED THEIR HANDS AND WERE HEALTHY.

  3. Well if you do not hold or play with the baby or if you wash your hands before you do, the baby should be fine ;)

  4. If you were sure that it was just allergies you could still go. However, since you aren't certain, I would postpone your visit so that you don't risk getting the baby sick.

  5. If I was the mother, I wouldn't want you too. Green mucus usually means an infection and a baby that young doesn't have a good immune system. Trust me the mother will understand :)

  6. I wouldnt go. Green mucus usually means you have an infection of some kind. even though you might just think its allergies, it may not be. i think you should put off seeing the baby. or maybe if you do decide to go. ask the nurses station for one of those face mask thingys (like the surgeons wear) so that you dont breath/cough/sneeze on or around the baby.

  7. Well, babies are cute, but not when their sick! The most reasonable thing to do would be to wait until you are better! I'm sure the baby and mother both will be much happier and understand.

  8. h**l no!! wut r u thinking. getting a 3 month old baby a cold. the baby is to young to get a cold

  9. If you can avoid it, you should.  But I would say that as long as you wash your hands, cover your mouth, and keep your distance, you should be fine.  Just don't hold the baby or touch any toys.

  10. No, don't go.

Greenish mucous usually means infection. You should go to the doctor instead :)

  11. I would go but you don't have to hold the baby.

  12. ERR on the side of caution and don't put this baby's life at risk.  Don't go

  13. Your symptoms you describe indicate a sinus infection not a virus..if their is no fever you should be fine...BUT to be on the SAFE side postpone your visit with the baby until You feel better...you can't enjoy a little one when you feel so bad.

  14. DO NOT GO

The baby right now has a weak immune system anything like even a cold could potentially kill it so dont go near the baby sadly.

  15. You won't

but you should caugh in a napkin to be sure

  16. I'm 37 weeks prego and when my baby comes...i want her subjected to some bacteria and virus's to build her amune system...but if your running a fever or doing things like caughin and sneezing id say wait til your better! Babies arent as strong as adults.

  17. Tell the mother you are sick. She will understand.

  18. You have a chest infection. Go to your doctor who will prescribe you anti-biotics. Don't visit the baby, chest infections can spread as they are caused by a Virus.

  19. Well once the baby has had all its shots leading to the 3 mnths u can visait the baby and look at but I wouldn't advise you to hold the baby though just to be on the safe side.

  20. No do not go.  Reschedule to see the baby later.  If you have green mucous you probably need to see a Dr. sounds like an infection.

  21. i don't think you should.  if the baby gets sick you will feel really bad.

  22. by all means stay home. you don't know whether or not you are contagious! as a parent i would love people to come and coo and all that over my new baby but not if you are a walking germ!!! do the baby a favor and see it when you are all better.

  23. You can buy those little white masks. It will help to protect the baby a bit. It may look goofy, but I would rather look goofy than make a baby sick. Try not to hold the baby for long periods of time, and keep your distance when you can.

  24. I wouldnt. You might put the baby in danger of getting sick. Just call the mother and tell her you are under the weather at the moment and that as soon as you start to feel better you will come see the baby

  25. just dont hold the baby cause that baby can get sick very easily at 3 months so go and just stay away from the baby

  26. You shouldnt go, but if you do, dont hold the baby and keep the distance. This will be hard but it is better for the baby. Just wait unitl you are over it, germs are germs even if its allergies or not. In all honestly, I would say no to someone who had a cold to see my baby even if it is allegeries. You are being so kind by concerning yourself with it, thanks! some people dont care!!

  27. a small baby will catch a cold or the flu alot faster than we will just too make sure that you don't have a cold first and if your not too sure don't visit the baby you dont want to be the cause for the baby to get sick

  28. No! You are contagious and a new baby like that doesn't have much of an immune system! The mom would be nuts if she let you come anyway! Visit when you feel better, it will be more enjoyable anyway!

  29. I always err on the side of caution with other people's newborns.  The green mucus is what would put red flags up for me.  It usually means infection.  If this is not the first child for the mother I am sure she is a little more laid back than a first time mom... but, if her baby gets sick you can know she will blame you!  lol  She may say to come anyways, but secretly would rather you waited until you feel better.  You just never know.

    Hope you feel better soon!

  30. The obvious answer would be NO WAY!!  With all the sicknesses going around and the immune systems of babies not being so strong these days I 'd stay away for the sake of the child.  If the mother would allow you to visit this just shows how much she needs to take her childs health into consideration. STAY AWAY!!! and get to a doctor!

  31. I would call the mom and tell her that I'm coming down with something and I don't want to get the baby sick...even if she still wants you to come, I would reschedule...
