Question:

Should I wear a wakeboarding helmet if I'm not riding obstacles?

I like to try a lot of new tricks, and don't mind falling hard - which I do often. Will a wakeboard helmet help protect my head if I'm just hitting water hard & fast, or is it only useful if you're protecting yourself from hitting your head against a rail or other object?

  1. i wore my new helmet once. took a crash. the  helmet didnt help. gives a sense of saftey that really isnt there. i may use it again cause I'm trying to land blind and know the back of my head will pay the price of learning that particular thing

  2. I don't know anyone who wears one that isn't in a competition that requires them.  One of my buddies has one, wore it once and swore never to wear it again.  Said it felt akward on his head and when it got wet, the water continuously ran into his eyes blurring his vision.

  3. Personally I think you should only use a helmet when doing obstacles because when I fall in the water while wakeboarding it's usually not my head that's hurting but rather other body parts. Also, wearing a helmet isn't very comfortable so if it's not needed than i think it's useless.  But you should always wear one when doing competions, in a cable park, or any time you use rails, jumps, and other things like that.
