Should I wear briefs or jammers?

For training and stuff...

I'm not too worried about which one is more embarrassing (I know briefs would lose out), because I'm quite comfortable with my body. I just want to know which will create less drag, which one is more comfortable while swimming, etc. I'm new to swimming so... Yeah...

  1. if you're training I'd suggest you get ones that create drag I forget the name I haven't used them in a while, but this is for when you're training when you're racing I suggest you go for either depending on the event jammers can be quite uncomfortable for breastroke I've noticed for me at least but that's just me it's really your pick try doing a bit of both to see.

  2. I own both. If you shave your legs the briefs have less drag. If you don't shave, the jammers will serve you better. If you are going to wear a drag suit in practice, it looks a lot better over briefs than jammers. I wear my briefs more than jammers now that I have gotten over the shyness.

  3. Well since you're new to swimming, you might consider briefs.  Unless you have hairy legs, then opt for the jammers.  I wear jammers because personally I'm more comfortable wearing them to practices (plus I have leg hair which would increase drag)

  4. I know I am a woman, but all the men on my swim team wear things that cause drag during practice so they get more of a workout (i.e. layering suits) and for competition they wear something more formfitting (i.e. briefs).

  5. Wear the briefs unless you like the sensation of the jammers hugging your thighs.  While shaving your legs will reportedly help you reduce drag, I've also read where the time it reduces from your laps is minimal.  Since you are just starting out, I wouldn't recommend shaving your legs yet.  If you choose to get on a team later, that would be the time to consider it.  I swim 5 times a week and I wear the brief because I prefer the way they feel over the jammer.  The vain side of me likes the tan I get when I'm relaxing by the pool in my briefs as well (my wife really likes the tan lines from the brief!).

  6. jammers will create less drag.
