I just received my first pair of glasses today, which are prescription computer glasses. I was wondering if I should use them when not on the computer.

  1. If they were made specifically for the computer, then they won't be strong enough to use as distance glasses.

I'll bet you can see that when you put them on.

If you don't see clear with them aside from when you are on the computer...that means not to wear them except for that purpose.

  2. You can use them for anything within 2-5 feet from your eyes.  Computer glasses are the term used by doctors to describe intermediate vision.  Now really you shouldn't use them unless you are in the 45 year range. A lot of times optometrist will write prescriptions for glasses that are not necessary.  Ophthalmologist will tell you that if you have trouble with computers it is due to dry eye, try artificial tears or an antiglare cover over your screen.

  3. depends, are they used for near vision only? If so, just wear them when needed for near work.
