Should I wear my contacts in a swimming pool?

I just started wearing them so I don't know all that much about them.

When I go underwater I don't open my eyes at all but I just want to know if it's okay for me to do this.

  1. Wear goggles or else they will fall out underwater.

  2. Make sure your contacts are ok to do this with.  Also, to be honest, I have had swimmers lose a contact and that is never good.  If you need them due to really bad eyesight, I suggest you look into custom goggles that are prescription.  They can be costly, but if you will be swimming alot, they are well worth it.  Look on the internet or contact Kiefer (a nationwide retailer of swim specific related items) for more information.

  3. u can but u'll probly get water in them anyways, but if u do MAKE SURE that u close ur eyes tight. but if u wear goggles then u really shouuldnt cuz u'll hav ur eyes open and if they leak then ur srewed, i made that mistake oncee; crappy goggles & contacts dont mix

  4. You shouldn't, but it really isn't a huge issue.

The contacts act as a sponge, they hold the pool water, with the chlorine and other bad things on your eye. That is the main problem. Sure you can loose them but that isn't the end of the world, assuming you can see well enough to drive home. In that case either take them out, keep a spare set in your swim bag, or bring a pair of glasses.

I never take mine out and I swim a lot. I do wear goggles when I'm swimming laps, but if I'm just goofing around or playing water polo, or whatever I just keep my eyes shut under water and I've never had a problem. I do keep a bottle of contact cleaner in my swim bag, and I'll take them out and rinse them off if they feel uncomfortable.
