my sub http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?search=type+r+1242d&i=500SWR1242

the alpine manual says to put the banana clips in so they each use 4 ohms but thats only limiting their power. is there a reason for this or can I wire them at 2 ohm so they each get 500RMS without damaging them?

  1. those subs, from the link provided, are dual 4 ohm voice coils. there for, they can be wired to either 1 ohm final load, or 4 ohm final load.

you cannot wire 2 x  4 ohm dvc subs into one channel to have a final load of 2 ohms.

if you can, return the subs and try getting the model that has dual 2 ohm voice coils for  those subwoofers.

  2. if you have a dual voice coil sub its better to run 2 ohms. It will give the amp more power to send to the amp

  3. think 4 ohms is the safest bet.  you don't want to feed back 2 ohms to a 4 ohm source, it'll fry it.
