Question:

Should I worry about my checking account being accessed?

Earlier today, as I was leaving work, I was approached by a gentleman and his wife. He was asking for money (for gas and food). I told him I didn't have any cash one me. He said he wanted to get some food for him and his wife. I agreed to go with them to a local fast food restaurant and buy them some food (I wanted to help out, but I wasn't just going to give him cash...obviously).

Anyway, to get to the point, after I bought him some food, I left. After going out the door, I remembered I forgot to get my receipt from him. I went back and asked for it, he gave it to me. Later, when I got home, I realized I only had half of the receipt (the receipt separates into a part showing you your purchase, and then a part that contains debit card info, etc.) I only had the top half showing my purchase.

My question is, should I worry about him using any info on the receipt to access my account? All that should have been on it is my name and the last 4 digits of my card #.

  1. I wouldn't worry since they would mostly need a password or pin to use the number.

  2. They can't get enough info from a reciept to acces your account. My suggestion would be to just keep an eye on your account and if you see any unusual activity then call your bank. All banks have a disputes and fraud dept. You are not held responsible for transactions you did not authorize. And in most cases they can get your funds back in your account in about 48 hours if you do have a situation.

  3. If there is any doubt, contact your bank immediately.  Better safe than sorry.

  4. Your card number doesn't print out on that section of the receipt... actually on any receipt using a CC, you can't get the whole number from the card.......generally the last 4 digits, and sometimes the last 5......... that is a requirement of the card issuing companies...since they are the ones on the hook for the financial losses and the very max that you could be held accountable for is $50.00 USD........

Even if they had the number.... they don't have the access code from the back of the card, so the number won't do them any good even if they did have it.......
