I used to be a recreational smoker, maybe smoking once or twice a month. But decided to up and quit a month ago, as I started looking for a new job and healither future. I finally got my dream job a week ago, and will be drug tested tomorrow. Again, I HAVE QUIT smoking (its been exactly 29 days), I weigh around 230lbs., Im slightly out of shape, I have drank 2 gallons per day for the past 3 days, took a detox drink last night just for sh**s'n'giggles, and I have laid off the alcohol & fatty foods for the 3 past days as well. Everyone I talked to said I shouldnt have any problem and there is no need to worry, but I thought I would post the question here, and get others' random 2 cents. And please, no lectures on how "drugs are bad." I have heard Mr. Mackey say it countless times, and I don't need to hear it here.

  1. It depends on what types of drugs it was some can stay in your system for months like marijuana.

  2. If it is just the simple test where they dip an indicator strip into your urine sample, the cut-off limit is about 50 nanograms per milliliter. 29 days should be okay...

If it is a high-security, or very dangerous job,  they might use mass-spectroscopy -- the cut off limit is about 9 nanograms per milliliter. More like 60 days is required. Few companies use this test since it is a lot more expensive, as it requires heavy duty lab equipment.

If they use hair sampling then it could be even longer.

But, all in all, your chances are pretty good that you will be okay.

  3. By the context of your question, I'm going to assume that you were referring to marijuana.

Traces of it can remain in your system for a few weeks afterward. If it's been a month, there's an outside chance that you might still test positive, although it is not guaranteed.

It is a chance that you are going to have to take. Employers have heard every stalling tactic in the book, most of them twice.

  4. You should be fine.  Just to ease your anxiety, why don't you go to a drug store or pharmacy and get one of those at home drug tests.
